"C" is for...

My daughter custom-made something for a friend name whose name begins with the letter "C" who happens to love to play the guitar.  We emulated the "C" chord on a t-shirt.
Materials: lace, buttons, beads
This is how I play my "C" chord with 3 & 4 "fingers" (But mistakenly reversed here. Oh well.)  
"C" is for creative, cute, chatty, competent Christine.

There is no such thing as "away". When we throw anything "away," it must go somewhere. ~Annie Leonard I've been mocked for saving stuff having our place looking like a mini- SCRAP but I really do have creative ideas to make the things I save but time is always an issue. I can't really "Save the World" by up cycling but if I could do a little, it won't hurt. I just need to be more organized so I'll have more time to be more creative. I'd love to create/make projects with others while bonding and sharing stories. But like I said, I need to be more organized! That's the key--for me, anyway. I have been donating several items to SCRAP and I just found a place to donate fabrics for St. Anthony where the ladies come together and sew things for the less fortunate. SOMETHING RED...

Everything was red.  From our invitation to our food: watermelon, lasagna, fruit punch. We had a lot of red items so it was easy to plan. For favors, we put together MY RED BOOK . I had my 2 older girls (then 7 & almost 5 years old) draw pictures of anything naturally red.  They did most of the work.  I just assembled them. They had a great time brainstorming and drawing simple images that came in red. Like a crab (when it's cook, of course.) A Robin (ever heard of the book, The Round Robin?) Photocopy on 8.5x11 white paper.  Believe it or not, I did not have any working computer at that time.  I overworked 2 iMacs but we had a copier that still works to this day. Cut in 1/4s, punch holes and assemble with brads. BOK CHOY, Anyone? (A Super Simple Project for Little--and Big--Hands)

Bok choy (Chinese cabbage) is one of the main ingredients of my kids' favorite dish, "Sinigang," a Filipino soup/stew characterized by its sour flavor most often associated with tamarind.  It's making my mouth watery as I write this. Anyway, what do you do with this part of the veggie?  Can't really eat it but don't toss it just yet. I'll give you a hint.  What image do you see?  If you see a rose, you're right!  You can use it as a stamp. I've used acrylic and fabric paints.  You can stamp on t-shirts/sweatshirts/paper, etc. Here, I stamped on some t-shirt material which I plan to make into a either a scarf or a pillow case (later when time allows.)  Stamp away but don't over stamp.  Just remember that white space is an element of design. It doesn't have to be bok choy.  It could be anything.  Celery, star apple, okra, leaves, rocks, twigs, etc.  Design is everywhere.  This world is filled with beauty for our pleasure by our C...
