BABY LOVE {two}: TUTU

Here's a cute little tutu for a baby girl who was born a month early. I think it'll fit her just right by now.  This pink & white rose fabric were scraps from a receiving blanket I made for someone who turned 13 years old this year. Yes, I kept them. 

I cut a long piece of the fabric and sewed the lace trim (which I already have in my batch) to its hem. 
Then I gathered one side and attached it to the onesie.
Made a little rosette with a cute little button.
Tada!  I could've added an applique and some trimmings on the arm and neckline.  Next time.  It's pretty easy, once you have everything.  Check out the link where I got my simplified version.

There is no such thing as "away". When we throw anything "away," it must go somewhere. ~Annie Leonard I've been mocked for saving stuff having our place looking like a mini- SCRAP but I really do have creative ideas to make the things I save but time is always an issue. I can't really "Save the World" by up cycling but if I could do a little, it won't hurt. I just need to be more organized so I'll have more time to be more creative. I'd love to create/make projects with others while bonding and sharing stories. But like I said, I need to be more organized! That's the key--for me, anyway. I have been donating several items to SCRAP and I just found a place to donate fabrics for St. Anthony where the ladies come together and sew things for the less fortunate. Upcycled Necklace 1

Beauty of style and harmony and grace and good rhythm depend on simplicity. ~Plato Finally posting this project made with Kiwi's ballet head-dress she only used ONCE and a used tee.  Simply cut several strips of the tshirt, and sew to make long tubes. You have to get a chopstick, or something of the like, to turn in inside out. Then add "pearls" to the petals I picked from the headdress and attach it to a small piece of ribbon then sew it around the tubes of tee. Just add a button and a makeshift buttonhole (just fold one of the tubes to create a hole). And VIOLA!  You can wear it with a plain tee or a dress-up outfit.

String of Hearts

A heart that loves is always young. ~Greek Proverb This is such an easy and eco-friendly project.  The only thing that takes time is the cutting out of the hearts. I used old magazines, scraps of scrapbooking paper, junk mail, anything that's not too flimsy.  Make a heart template out of cereal box, trace and cut away.  No need to be perfect.  I had my kids do it.  Then sew them altogether.  Use the widest stitch.  And hang it up.  That's it.  Done!  OR you can do it  this way. Lunar New Year usually comes around the same time as Valentine's Day so I brought out the good ol' red lantern.  This was actually last year's decor.  So simple yet festive enough. This year, I finally strung together the origami cranes my kids made from way back when.  I'll post those later...  In the meantime, "MAKE A HEART" =.) I love thee for a heart that's kind.
